Why is the A.H. Bishop collection so important compared to others?

Size and record-keeping! With over 23,000 items, it’s one of the largest prehistoric assemblages in the UK. More importantly, Bishop’s meticulous handwritten ledgers provide a “map” of where these items were found, making it a goldmine for modern scientific research.

Most people know the Bishop name from the famous Glasgow grocery firm, but Andrew Henderson Bishop’s real legacy is much older—literally thousands of years older. He assembled one of the UK’s most massive archaeological collections, featuring everything from 6,000-year-old survival kits to high-tech Bronze Age weapons.    This talk tells the story of how this one man’s obsession saved Scotland’s prehistoric past for the public.
